What Future Joburg will look like if Microsoft designed it
Microsoft Office Labs have recently released their latest video illustrating the future of our connected, technology-enhanced world. And Future Johannesburg plays a starring role in it.
“Watch how future technology will help people make better use of their time, focus their attention, and strengthen relationships while getting things done at work, home, and on the go.”
The video focuses on three main characters: Ayla, a working mother travelling to Johannesburg to deliver a business presentation; Shannon, Ayla’s daughter at home; and Qin, Ayla’s Hong Kong-based business colleague.
Using technology and devices that are all in our very near future, the video shows how we’ll be able to interact and seamlessly connect to the world around us and to the people that we encounter in it.
Best bits? The Johannesburg hotel scenes, and the segment towards the end of the video that shows Ayla collaborating with her daughter as they bake “something special” for Shannon’s school bake-sale. They go for that South African classic Melktert.
Personally, I never imagined seeing a recipe for melktert being used in a video at all, never mind one that highlights future technology.
And if future Jozi looks and works anything like what’s suggested by the clip then I’m really looking forward to being part of it.
