Wednesday Night at Winex
We did a quick spin through the RMB Winex expo at Sandton Convention Centre last night. I am happy to report it is still worth the R100.00 per ticket, although I would recommend a two night pass as there is just too much to take in all in one night.
The stands were less flashy this year. Clear signs that the recession must be taking it’s toll. Yet there were plenty – it seemed as if more than ever. A couple of highlights were the SA grown olives: we are getting good at that. Also I spotted a stand selling Argon gas to “seal” off the air getting to your 1/2 drunk bottle of wine whilst storing for the next day.
I also enjoyed the Thelema wines. They just do it for me.
The one thing I did notice was how many “chocolate/coffee” wines are now available. Obviously riding on the coattails of Dimmersfontein Pinotage’s cult status. We did find a brilliant alternative but the name eludes me now. It was something like “Mochalate” I think. We did make notes but lost the crucial clipboard at the last table…
Checkers had a good cheese counter as well. They are doing very well with that business model.
Over all we enjoyed the evening and I would recommend you give it a try. If you are a single guy I would suggest you take your “A-Game” with you, as plenty of ladies showing way too much cleavage after way too much wine was also a feature of the night.
