Up the Creek 2011

3-6 February 2011, Breederiver, Swellendam

Yes Creekers, it is time again for the countdown to our annual pilgrimage to the Breede River, to celebrate some of our country`s most talented musicians at one of the most magnificent settings in the Western Cape.   From 3– 6 February 2011, you will be able to indulge in the pleasure of listening to amazing sounds, playful river activities and great company all on a little farm literally in the “middle of nowhere” . Real goose bump stuff.

The line up for Up the Creek 2011 is nothing short of phenomemal and we are happy to let you know that the following bands and artists have been contracted  for the weekend:  Boo!, aKing, Jack Parow, Flash Republic, Karen Zoid, Elvis Blue, Taxi Violence , Dan Patlansky, Piet Botha, Dirty Skirts; No One’s Arc, The Rudamentals,  Hot Water, Bed on Bricks, Blues Broers, Dave Ferguson, Akkedis, Fox Comet, Captain Stu, Black Cat Bones, Larry Joe, Southern Gypsey Queens with Albert Frost and The Wild Eyes.

We are also happy to announce that Catherine Grenfell from 5fm has signed up to be the MC at Up the Creek 2011.  Comedians that will entertain you and tickle your funnybones include Nik Rabinowitz, Mark Sampson, Pierrot and the Flaming A Brigade featuring Ms. Blackie Swart.

In typical Up the Creek tradition we will be running the main stage, the river stage and the all-night-long Breede River bar stage once again.

BOS Breederiver Late Night Stage:

This year we invite you to go BOS at the farmhouse stage.  As midnight calls, late night revellers will find themselves gathering around the intimate BOS BREEDERIVER LATE NIGHT STAGE for a kick-ass party together with some of the best South African musos.

BOS is a bona fide South African company that makes a range of deliciously refreshing rooibos based ice teas and they’re coming to the festival with their BOSSEWA, a custom designed chill area on wheels.  They’ll be adding to the late night vibes by selling their delicious, to-die-for BOS ice teas and cocktails and keeping everyone energised till the wee hours of the morning.

The word BOS captures the energy and irreverence of South Africa. It’s a little quirky, a little crazy and a little left off centre. This year BOS is bringing the party right to the heart of Up The Creek for a truly homegrown experience.

Thursday night special early show:

For those who simply cannot wait to get to Up The Creek, why not join us for a sneak pre-view on  Thursday night 3 February.  You’ll get up close and cosy with Dave Ferguson, Larry Joe, Southern Gypsy Queen, Piet Botha and Akkedis on the BOS late night stage and Friday you get to choose your slice of heaven on the banks of the Breede River.  Beats working!!!  Gates open at 16h00 on Thursday, see ticket prices for details of Thursday – Sunday passes.

BOS PIMP YOUR LILO competition:

Thanks to BOS, this year`s prizes for the “Anything that Floats” competition will be well worth entering.  There are two main prizes up for grabs:

Best Looking Float:

  • 1 x BOS cooler bag filled with BOS Product + R1,000 cash.
  • 2 Free tickets to UTC 2012.
  • 1 x BOS Beach Umbrella.
  • 2 x free tickets to a  Kirstenbosch concert.

The Fastest Float:

  • “Dinner for two”  at Up The Creek with butler service. This will include a spitroast dinner by famed Farmer Andries with a table gorgeously decorated.  A waiter will ensure that drinks are regularly topped up and every need is met.
  • 2 x free tickets to UTC 2012.
  • 2 x free tickets to a Kirstenbosch Concert

If it floats it counts, but if it floats and looks pretty, or floats very fast, it counts even more. Granted, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but in true Up the Creek style we’re not talking merely a splash of paint and a pink balloon here…Go BOS with those floats!

General:

In 2011, we will bring you the same of what worked last year and more: More food vendors to get you through the days in style, including coffee maestros that can deliver your caffeine to your tent-step, more stalls and more bars throughout the festival. Once again, there will be an area with committed staff to look after the little peeps, as well as dedicated life-guards to ensure maximum safety.

Kiddies area:

We love it that so many parents bring their kids along to Up the Creek every year.  This year we are making sure that your little darlings will be well entertained and taken care of. The children’s area will operate on Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 4pm and will have the following activities:  Face painting, Balloon modeller, Jumping Castle, Arts and Crafts activities, colouring in competitions, treasure hunts and games.

There will be lifeguards at the river, but parents please take care of your own children at the river.
