The Sick-Leaves Covers Roy Orbison’s “Crying”

[pullquote]Sunday, 03 April: Catch The Sick-Leaves live on East Coast Radio today at 17h30[/pullquote]

tsl-crying-ftThe Sick-Leaves, who is one of our favourite local musicians Eksteen Jacobsz, have sent us info on work they’ve been doing recently in between preparing for the imminent release of a new EP Breaking Away.  It was during the recording process for the new EP that Eksteen heard about the Roy Orbison Foundations’ Under The Covers Compilation project being put together to honour Orbisons’ 75th birthday later this year. The Foundation had put a call out for submissions of cover versions of Orbison songs submitted from artists around the world.

Being a long time Orbison fan, it was an opportunity that The Sick-Leaves could not resist, and after conducting an impromptu poll on Facebook, Eksteen completed work on a rocked-up version of the Roy Orbison classic “Crying”. The TSL version has been submitted for consideration to the Foundation, and it is hoped that they’ll hear whether the song will be included on the final compilation or not by the end of April.

Blablanians can grab a sneak listen to the cover using the Sound Cloud player at the end of this post.

In related news the Official Sick-Leaves web site and fan community has also recently gone live – go check it out at, and tell ‘em we sent you!

And finally, you can catch Eksteen in a short live interview tonight on East Coast Radio when he chats to Abi Ray at 17h30 and get to hear “Crying” played on radio for the first time anywhere. If you are in the KZN area, you can listen in on your trusty FM radio. If you aren’t able to receive the ECR radio signal, they also broadcast live via streaming audio through their website.
