Pure Protea Power

Fans have responded enthusiastically to Pure Protea Friday, an initiative recently launched by Lead SA, and endorsed by the Sports Ministry and Cricket South Africa, encouraging the South African public to show their 100% support for the Proteas.

Similar to the successful trend of Football Fridays, where South Africans wore their soccer jerseys in support of Bafana Bafana, people are now being encouraged to show their 100% support for the Proteas in the lead up to the ICC Cricket World Cup in February.

CSA CEO Gerald Majola said: “The response from fans has been amazing. We want to build on this momentum and ensure we demonstrate the true spirit of Ubuntu as our team takes on the best in the world.”

The Proteas kick off their World Cup campaign on 24 February 2011, when they clash with West Indies in New Dehli in a Group B encounter. Their group matches also see them face Netherlands on 3 March in Mohali, England on 6 March in Chennai, India in Nagpur on 12 March, Ireland in Kolkata on 15 March and Bangladesh in Dhaka on 19 March. The World Cup Final takes place on 2 April in Mumbai.

The official Proteas World Cup replica shirt will be launched on 1 February 2011. Fans can purchase official CSA supporters’ gear via cricket.co.za, at selected Sneakers stores and at all Proteas games.

Fans are encouraged to join the CSA fans page for exclusive behind-the-scenes coverage of the Proteas on tour – facebook.com/cricketsouthafrica. For breaking cricket news, follow twitter.com/officialcsa.

  1. Hi JoBra. It’s been a while!

Was at Sundays’ ODI final game (with Voted! and other ASOLs) and was hugely impressed by the amount of support the Proteas had. Many green shirts and caps and tons of SA flags.

I jsut worry that the momentum will be lost a little when the WC starts over in India. With the time differences, some of the teams’ matches will be on very late (or very early – I’ve never been good with time zones!), and be seen only by a limited audience with access to Supersport. Or are SA’s games all being televised on SABeeCee as well?

    Does anyone know?

  2. A while… yeah, sorry about that. Life and stuff, you know? 🙂

    ASOLs – what are they?

    • This is an ASOL:

      • Hey, that pic is ©VOTED!

That will be ONE MILLION DOLLARS please..
