New Big Concerts Coming to South Africa

Now that we have become the leading information portal on all things local ‘concerty’, I have the pleasure in announcing the upcoming tour of some of the biggest names in rap history. History I say as some of them, if not all, should be left right there…

In December this year we will have the privilege to witness a coming together of three artists, the likes of which we have never seen before. Re-popularised by the latest Castle Lite ad campaign, Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer and Turbo B will be performing at Carnival City on the 15th & 16th of December, at The Grand West on the 17th & 18th and at the Durban ICC on the 19th. (So Durbs, you asked for some concerts, here have one…!)

VANILLA ICE, or Robert van Winkle as his mother knows him, was thrust into our lives singing “ICE ICE BABY” stealing the riff from “UNDER PRESSURE”. He convinced us that WHITE BOYS CAN RAP, or did he?

MC HAMMER, or Stanley Burrell, was responsible for teaching us the catchy tune “CAN’T TOUCH THIS” and then he made us buy those awful pants…

I must say that TURBO B had more of a profound effect on me personally than the other two clowns. You might remember the band SNAP! Now that’s what I’m talkin about! They rocked, even if it was only long enough to produce 3 decent songs… and six remix albums of the same material.

The BACK 2 KOOL show, as it has been billed, is open for bookings on the COMPUTICKET website. So rush over and buy your tickets before they all sell out.

I wonder if CASTLE LITE is sponsoring the tour? Maybe SNAP! will feature in the next commercial? The story line could go along the lines of two rappers walk up to the bar, both order a CASTLE LITE at the same time, look at each other and say SNAP! at the same time. I GOT THE POWER rings out of the speakers in the club and everyone starts dancing…

  1. I heard you are bringing Cirque du Soleil. If so, when?

  2. Hi please let me know if the Bionic world tour will come to South Africa Capr Town.
    thanx Lindsay

    • Hi Lindsay

To be brutally honest I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you. I doubt Christina will get to sunny SA any time soon. I hope for you and her many other fans that I’m wrong, but:

Christina Aguilera planned to further promote her “Bionic” album by embarking on the “Bionic Tour”. Twenty concerts were scheduled across the United States and Canada between July 15, 2010, and August 19, 2010.

On May 24, 2010, Aguilera postponed the tour until 2011. In a message on her website and from tour promoter Live Nation, Aguilera stated that due to the excessive promotion of the album and her then upcoming film debut in Burlesque, she felt she needed more time to rehearse the show and with less than a month between the album release and tour, it was not possible to create and perform a show at the level that her fans expect from her.

To date, nothing is known about whether the tour will actually take place or not. Nor, if it does go ahead, is there any indication of where and when she will perform.

I’ll keep an eye on it, and update here if I hear anything new…

  3. When is The Boss “Bruce Springsteen” coming to S.A. ?????

    • Hi Victor.
I love how you put the Bruce Springsteen bit in inverted commas, and leave The Boss to stand alone! Respect being given where its due.

It would be brilliant to get a chance to see The Boss live here! A Springsteen tour for 2011 has been rumoured about for awhile now. We could probably say that about many artists though! The rumour did suggest that if he did tour there would be dates in Australia. If that happened, we’d stand an outside chance that he may come by here on his way elsewhere.

At this stage though, I wouldn’t hold my breath. I follow a terrific Springsteen fan blog site called Blogness on the Edge of Town. Worth a look if you’re a fan:

I promise you, if I hear anything my friends here on BlaBla will be the first to know!

  4. Is there a chance that My Chemical Romance would come to South Africa or am I just a hopeless optimist? Will Panic! at the Disco be returning to SA to promote Vices and Virtues?

  5. Would love to have Panic! at the Disco – there are some many fans – and My Chemical Romance!!! Are there any plans for them to come in the future? Thanks πŸ™‚

  6. Are the Red Hot Chilli Peppers coming to South Africa any time soon?

  7. I sure hope so too!

  8. Would be great to have Florence and the Machine in SA πŸ˜€
