New Apple iPhone 4.0 Revealed

The new iPhone 4 - Sure is pretty! Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the new look iPhone – the iPhone 4.0 – at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in the US earlier today.

Scheduled to be available in the States from June 24, Jobs called the redesigned phone “the biggest leap” Apple has taken with the phone since the first iPhone was launched in 2007.

The iPhone 4 is entirely redesigned, with a thinner body, more antennas for improved reception on both Wi-Fi and 3G wireless networks, a second video camera on the front that will permit video calling and an extra slot for a second noise-cancelling microphone.

“This is one of the most beautiful devices we’ve ever made,” Jobs proclaimed.

Other highlights of the new phone:

  • a sharper display which has four times more pixels than the current iPhone.
  • powered by the same A4 chip that Apple uses for the iPad which should make it faster and provide improved battery life.
  • an upgraded camera with more pixels, for a sharper image, and 720p high-definition video recording.
  • the inclusion of iMovie video software to the iPhone, for video editing on the fly — at a cost of $4.99.
  • a video-calling feature, called “FaceTime”, available only between owners of the new model.
  • a new operating system — dubbed iOS4 — which will be out June 21st.

I so want one!

  2. Thanks for the review. I also now really want one. I don't suppose you have any news on when this will be released for purchase in ZA?

    • Hi James

Welcome to The BlaBla Blog! Nice of you to stop by and leave your comment.

From our best sources we've managed to get very little in way of commitment to local release dates for the iPhone 4.0 unfortunately. It seems that no-one is really prepared to commit themselves on record for fear of getting it wrong or for delays on dates. There was delays put onto the local availability of the iPad, and with the huge number of 4.0 phones pre-ordered in the States, it is possible that we'll see a similar thing again.

Apple says the iPhone 4 will be available in the US, UK, France, Germany and Japan on 24 June. By the end of July, the smartphone will be available in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland, according to Apple. It adds that the iPhone 4 will be rolled out worldwide to 88 countries by the end of September.

No definite confirmation if this last group includes SA but we are pretty sure it does. There's is also still no confirmed arrival date here for the iPad yet, so be take this all with a mild pinch of salt.

Best off-the-record estimate I got was via Vodacom who suggest that if the rollout goes according to plan, and no delays in production are experienced, you might well have your shiny new iPhone in time for Christmas.

If you want to add a second one for me to your order, I won't say no.

  3. i wish u all the best and i think you’ll be the best in communication.

  4. good luck for 8.ta
