Here’s a taste of what you can look forward to in April 2013, and proof that Metallica are still as energetic and hardcore as they always have been. Enter Sandman recorded live at Orion Music + More on June 24, 2012 in Atlantic City, NJ
The news of the tour seemed to have slipped through the Big Concerts media embargo cracks again earlier than officially planned when a tour announcement video clip was leaked onto YouTube by MK Musiek, the DSTV alternative Afrikaans music channel. The video was pulled within minutes of someone realising that they’d set to to be publicly visible, but not before a number of their 1,500-odd YT channel subscribes had received automatic notification of the new video.
Big Concerts are due to make a formal announcement later today: “For all you BIG rock fans, we’ve got another announcement to make this afternoon. Stay tuned to 5FM and listen out to Fresh Drive after 4pm.”
We’ll add in the confirmed dates and details as soon as they are available.
Metallica hail from Los Angeles, California where they formed in 1981 when James Hetfield responded to an advertisement that drummer Lars Ulrich had posted in a local newspaper. The band are known for the fast tempo of many of their songs, lengthy instrumentals, and aggressive musicianship and are generally recognised as one of the founding “Big Four” of thrash metal alongside Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax.
Metallica has released nine studio albums, three live albums, five extended plays, 24 music videos, and 45 singles. They’ve won nine Grammy Awards, and have had five consecutive albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200, the first band to do so.
The band’s 1991 album, Metallica, has sold over 15 million copies in the United States (making it the 25th biggest selling album in the States), and 28 million copies worldwide. In December 2009, it became the best-selling album of the SoundScan era, surpassing 1997’s Come on Over by country artist Shania Twain.
The band has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide as of the release of their latest album, Death Magnetic (2008). As of December 2009, Metallica is the fourth best-selling music artist since the SoundScan era began tracking sales on May 25, 1991, selling a total of 52,672,000 albums in the United States alone.
