Foo Fighters in South Africa in 2012
The latest big-act-is-coming-to-SA story revolves around one of my favourite rock bands – Foo Fighters. The mill will have us know that the rockers are (or at least their management are) in “discussions” about the possibility of visiting us next year “sometime”.
I should know better than to listen to rumours. Last time it was “Bon Jovi is definitely coming to South Africa at the end of 2011”. And I guess that ain’t happening.*
The Foos are presently on tour in North America, with dates scheduled through until mid-December in support of Wasting Light, their latest album. After that though, all goes quiet.
Much net trawling, forum posting and tweet sending by yours truly has unfortunately resulted in nothing more substantial than a few “I’ve also heard that rumour” replies. If anything more solid does come up though, you know you’ll hear it from us as soon as we do.
In the mean time though, here’s a little taste of what we could be experiencing “sometime” next year:
(A very similar set of chatter has also been bubbling around recently about the Red Hot Chili Peppers paying a visit to South Africa in 2012. Could you imagine a Fighters/Chili Peppers double bill at Soccer City? Wow!)
* In our defence, the Bon Jovi rumours looked and sounded really positive for a while, with many hints from Jon Bon Jovi himself. The last we heard was that negotiations to the band here broke down because a viable sponsor to fund the visit couldn’t be secured.
