====Post Edit: Monday, 31 January 2011 @ 13:30===
Something else has just occurred to me that may just throw another spanner into the works here… (sorry )
I recall seeing/reading somewhere a note that once we (eventually!!) receive our tickets from U2.com/eTix we’ll still need to take these to Computicket and collect our actual entrance tickets from them? I seem to think that the reason for this was due to the fact the the tickets issued by eTix would not conform to the scanners/barcode readers/whatevers in use at the stadium entrance gates, and that only the physical tickets that are produced by Computicket would work.

Here’s the specific note:
How will I receive my tickets?
Your tickets will be distributed to you by U2.com most likely in the first week of January 2011, and you will still receive a Computicket ticket in order to enter the venue.

Now, if that’s still valid (and I see no reason why it isn’t, or why it would have changed) it just adds more of a concern to those in this situation…

====Post Edits End===

With all of the confusion surrounding the issuing and collection of U2 260 Degree concert tickets bought online during the pre-sales period by U2.com subscribers, I sent an email to eTix earlier today asking for some clarification.

This is the response I received a short while ago:

Hi Greg,

Thank you for contacting eTix. You can anticipate that tickets will be available a few days before the performance as well as on the day of the performance— please do not make special flight accommodations to arrive several days early for the sole purpose of collecting tickets as tickets will still be available on the day of the show.

As soon as ticket collection details are confirmed, an email will be sent to ticket holders. Please be on the lookout for an email sent from support@etix.com or fulfillment@etix.com in the near future.

Thanks for your patience in this matter.

Best,
Heather

Like many others, all I’m trying to do is get clarity on the issue as there are conflicting stories doing the rounds. Around the same time that I was receiving the response from eTix, Big Concerts, in a commented reply to a question seemed to suggest that we can collect our tickets from Computicket already:

However, that statement completely contradicts the polite note from the lovely Heather at eTix. So what now?

We were advised last night that eTix is setting up collection points next week, which will be centrally located in each city to facilitate ticket collections. We hope to have the detail of where this will be and when it will be open during the next 24 hours.

The intention is to allow fans to pick up their tickets before the shows in order not to create any unnecessary further stress.54 minutes ago

    • Best news of the day!!!
      Ta awfully.

  2. Gradually things are becoming clearer:
More from the BC note and comments this morning:

Big Concerts @Mark/Nicola – these are Computicket tickets which we printed and shipped overseas earlier this year. To issue an electronic ticket would mean rebooking each individual transaction and destroying the tickets already printed…

@Shelli – you will get the actual ticket from Computicket. For safety (and logistical reasons) there will be a collection point in each city where the concerts are being held – i.e. JHB and CT.

Still not perfectly ideal, but at least we know that the tickets exist and are already in the required Computicket format.

But, as these comments on their post say:
“Oi! I can see this becoming a nightmare… I have a fulltime day job with loads of overtime… Do not have time to go and queue… THAT’S why I opted for the U2 etix option – now you tell me that’s EXACTLY what is going to happen and at the last possible moment as well??”

    And
“You printed Computicket tickets and sent them overseas only to be sent right back again? I assumed we would get some kind of voucher from etix (when they were still going to post) which would allow us to exchange for a Computicket ticket. L…uckily I live in CT and am going to the concert in CT but feel really sorry for the people who live in other cities e.g: Pretoria, DNB, PE and can’t get their tickets in their own cities, hope this is resolved for them. As Sally said above, we paid $50 to avoid stress not increase it. I realize you are doing your best to resolve this but still a lot of concerns for certain ppl as mentioned above.”

    And probably most honestly:
“seems like the idea of avoiding the stress of not getting tickets has come back to bite us all in the ASS!!!!”

You can follow these Big Concerts note and the rest of the comments being made here: http://on.fb.me/fzYiV3

    • If the tickets have been Pre-Printed, that means there is a pile of tickets that some poor shmuck as to wade through everytime someone comes to collect….this could take a while.

      • Indeed it could. I don’t think the Hyatt has realised how potentially chaotic their lobby is going to be from next Friday!

I’m still very curious to find out just how many tickets were sold via Pre-Sales for each of the shows. Does anyone know? Maybe even an indication of what sort of average percentage of tickets are generally sold to U2 concerts via pre-sales??

        • At least 3 seated blocks in the stadium, plus the standing tickets…. 10% ???
          8 to 12 thousand ????

        • 38,000 presale tickets were sold but I don’t know the breakdown between Jo’burg and CT.

  3. I am flying in from Zimbabwe specifically for the U2360 concert in Joburg. I’ve already forked out an extra US$90 to change my flight to one 2 days earlier, because I am concerned about trying to pick up tickets. I joined U2.com for US$50 to be able to buy presale tickets…..this is turning out to be a very costly concert.

    • Hi Phee – cool name!
Did you get the updated info regarding ticket collection from The Firs mall in Rosebank? Details are in the post above, or on one of the emails copied in the comments here. Agree that this is turning out to be a bit more expensive for many – both financially and emotionally! – but am sure that the effort is going to be worth it in the long run.
      Safe & happy travels!

  6. Okay, so…OR Tambo to Rosebank on a Sunday morning…what sort of time frame am I looking at please?

    • How long is a piece of string? Sorry to be so negative – Sunday there should not be too much traffic – perhaps 45 mins. Then it depends how many people are in the queues to still collect tickets. Good luck 🙂

    • Debs is right prodigal – traffic in Jozi is often a lottery. Sunday morning generally would be quieter than the afternoon on the highways, but if you land up having a part of your trip going through a section of highway being worked on things can bottleneck quickly. If there are no problems on the road, 30 – 45 mins into the Rosebank area is easily doable though. From Rosebank to Nasrec should take another 30 mins if traffic is flowing on the highway. Once you are off the highway though and heading to the stadium parking though, it’s anyone’s guess. (I assume you’re parking at the stadium, and have purchased your parking ticket from computicket?)

  7. I checked again with the Etix CEO and they are awaiting confirmation of the location for ticket distribution in Cape Town. They hope to finalize it today.

  8. You’re a treasure, June:-)

  9. Well as much as this is a bit of a pain in the ass, this is still WAY LESS stress than what we would have gone through if they had snail mailed them.
So Thanks to all, hope the queues are not too long and the concert rocks. Reports this morning indicate some dumb ass stole copper cables at the Calabash last night so Eskom will be running hard reinstalling them. Never a dull moment here, but it keeps us on our toes.
    🙂

    • Heard the story about the copper cable theft as well, and had a little heartbeat skip moment as well!

Hopefully they didn’t go anywhere near the vast number of containers of u2 staging equipment that have started to arrive on site! Mind you, you’d think that with all the security that must be around the place looking after the U2 luggage that thieves wouldn’t have waited until now to nick the copper cables?

      • Well, if the cables are stolen, then I guess it will be an unplugged show?!?!?

        LOL…

I just think opening the ticket area from 10h00 to 18h00 is a bit wishfull thinking. Might be wrong. I think it’s gonna look a bit like Cairo down there.

Can anyone confirm what we need to take along to collect the tickets?

        • 😀 LOL @ unplugged concert!!

Debs has the required info for ticket collection spot on – I’m was going to suggest that you may as well also take the credit statement showing your charge on it, but that may just be overkill 🙂

    • Here’s a link to the image BigC posted on Monday of the first load of 60 containers arriving at FNB Stadium….

      http://on.fb.me/gUA5zI

      IT’s GONNA BE HUGE!!!

  10. I would take Photo ID, the ORDER NUMBER we got when we booked and the credit card used to by online. The thought of collecting tickets has put a big damper on my enthusiasm 🙁 I also would love to know when we get the free CD that we were promises when we paid the US$50 for joining the U2 fan club??? Did anyone get theirs?

    • Nope, no CD for me… Yes, I am also quite pee’d off… Actually considering selling mine to be honest…

      • You selling your CD (when you eventually get it!) or your U2.com membership Jaco? Might be an idea to try to recoup some of the expenses…

    • The response i received, when i asked, was along the lines of “The number of members to U2.com was huge and demand exceeded supply. They will be forwarded to you in due course… blah blah”. It seems it is a reason they let members download that Streets Have No Name MP3 cos they had to give the fans something.

      Ho hum.

      • Ho hum is exactly how I feel at the moment too Derek…

We paid extra to get priority seating, easy access to tickets, support from U2.com and a collectors edition CD. Not much of that has happened for me yet. At all.

    • nobody has received anything yet and I don’t think we will in the first coming weeks. I am a U2.com member since 2004 and service wasn’t brilliant at the beginning, but since the whole merchandise thing was sold to Live Nation, it’s gone from bad to a lot worse. no worries tho’, we will get it eventually. They said January but they didn’t add the year :p.

for all you who are stressing out (that includes me :p)… trust me when I say this show will be so much worth it. if it’s the only show you see, don’t stand too close. that claw is … immense, huge, MASSIVE when you see it standing there but it’s totally mindblowin’ and stunningly beautiful when it comes to live.Owww!! 2 more weeks! :-))

They must have really pissed the people at the Hyatt off with their original instructions which they seemingly assumed the Hyatt would be okay with…. 🙂 “Sure we won’t mind having 10,000 grumpy U2 fans traipsing through our lobby. No problem!”

  13. Greg, you raise an interesting point with the “10,000 grumpy U2 fans”. I wonder how many people bought tickets on pre-sale, and of those how many did it for convenience and how many did it because they wouldn’t want to risk not getting tickets to their all-time favourite band.

I am in the latter category, and already feel a sense of camaraderie with some of the posters here. Looking forward to meeting them in the queue early on Sunday morning(especially after reading the post you put up about Super fan Joe). @des10nish on twitter if anyone wants to say hi on Sunday next week!

    • Glad that the spirit of camaraderie is growing too! I won’t be at the Jozi concert myself, but know a number of people who will be and would like to get as many of them (and as many others as well!) to keep me and the others not so fortunate updated with things as they happen.

I’m thinking that using Twitter and Facebook would be pretty useful for all things U2 concert related – collecting tickets, standing in the Inner Circle queue, in the stadium before, during and after the show, be they status updates, tweets or tweeted pictures. I am starting to set up two Twitter lists of Tweeters who will be at the shows, and would like to ask that they use these hashtags for their U2 related posts: #U2JHB and #U2CT We’ll then be able to stream a live feed of related tweets right here in the Blog itself, and also incorporate Facebook updates and pictures through our Fan Page for those that don’t use Twitter.

If anyone would like to be added to our U2 Twitter Lists please drop your Twitter name and venue in a reply here, or via a tweet to @blablablog and we’ll set things up. (Nishaan, I’m adding you already!)

    • Thanks muchly for the update Autour! Hope your travels from Canada are safe, quick and as unstressed as possible! You are coming to one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and to see one of the greatest shows on earth. It’ll make all this ticket trouble worthwhile 🙂

      • Hi Greg,

thanks very much for warm words and for starting the posting about this! It has honestly provided much comfort for me while I’ve been nervously biting my nails about this concert ticket. I still don’t have it yet, but despite this whole debacle I bet it’ll be a lot of fun meeting other U2 fans while in line (or I guess queueing is what you would say?)! Many thanks to all of you for the reassuring posts. I have been a ridiculously gigantic U2 fan for the past 20 years so am really looking forward to the show and discovering your beautiful city for the first time. Have heard nothing but amazing things about Cape Town (and this coming from non-South Africans).

        See you all soon!

        • woooooooooohoooooo!! we have news!!!
one more week at work but got my suitcases ready to go :-)))))))))))

  15. Has anybody actually collected the tickets, ive been to the hyatt and the firs and everybody shrugs their shoulders, still no tickets

    • Hi there Simon

I think you were obviously HUGELY excited when you got the email telling you that you can collect your tickets? So much so that you didn’t actually read all the details maybe?
Joburg ticket collections are only taking place from next Friday, the 11th and continuing on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th – the day of the concert itself.

At least you’ve got to see the lay of the land…. 😉

    • 🙂 Simon is super eager to get his hands on his tickets! So are we!

Any tips on the best place to park and the best entrance to use at The Firs at all Simon? I’m sure there’s a lot of people who have never been to the place who would appreciate a little heads up after your reconnaissance mission on the weekend.

  16. Hi Greg,

Thanks for the info so far. I also received the “you can get the tickets in the three days leading up to the concert” email from eTix. All well and good, unless you live in Durban and having gone with the pre sales option to ensure that you get tickets as a long standing fan, you are now faced with trying to get to the V&A to collect them. This is made worse when factoring in the flights I booked some months ago only arrive at about 4:40 pm at Cape Town Int on the 18th and then we still have to go and fetch at the V&A before 6:00pm. Tight. Stressed.

Sent an email to eTix to see what they are going to do for the (000’s??) of fans who live outside of JHB and CT who may not be able to get to the WillCall centres in good time. Certainly hope that the talk of having to also go to Computicket is not correct.

    cheers

    Mat

    • Hi Mat
Yeah, we’re in a similar situation to you but will be arriving in CTown early on the Friday morning so will have a little more time to find our tickets. Thankfully it sounds like the tickets we’ll be getting from eTix at the V&A are in fact tickets that were produced by Computicket locally and then shipped to the States last year for eTix to mail out – the bit that never happened. They’ve just brought the pile of tickets back and will issue them to us directly.

So, in your case, looks like a parking at the V&A as soon as you can get there, grab a hold of your tickets, and then stroll over to the stadium…
      It’s gonna be huge!

  17. Whoo hoo people, got news

    • Thanks Annette
      Post has been updated!
      Rock on!

  18. Hi

Does anyone know if you can send someone on your behalf to collect the tickets?
If so what documentation do you need to provide. Surely if you have a letter and the person has your ID and a copy of the Credit card they would let it go?

    Thanks

    A.

    • Hi Annette
I think you have it 100% correct. Big Concerts replied to the same question on their Facebook page recently. They said: “(Someone else) …can (collect tickets issued in your name) provided you give them a letter stating they can and a copy of the ticket reference and your credit card.”

  19. Hi Greg,

This is the response I got from eTix to my “what do you do if you are from Durban etc.” question…

“The ticket collection area is open until just an hour and a half prior to the performance. If you are unable to personally collect your tickets, you are able to authorize an individual to collect the ticket on your behalf.

If you would prefer to authorize another individual to collect your tickets, please reply to this email with that person’s first and last name. He or she would need to bring his or her own photo ID and the order ID to the ticket collection point.

Please reply to this email with those details within the next 24 hours.

    Thank You,
    Heather
    eTix Customer Support”

I guess others would need to generate a similar question type email to eTix to get this response. I fortunately have family in CT who are also going to collect their eTix tickets, so hopefully on Wednesday all will be good. Cannot wait…

    Mat

    • Mat you are a legend! Thanks for sharing this feedback. It is A LOT different from what appeared on the Big Concerts’ info pages.

Here’s the specific note I spotted there:

Debbie Nothnagel: I bought tickets on U2.com for someone else-I won’t be in Joburg for ticket collection on 11, 12 and 13 Feb? Can someone else pick up the tickets? Does anyone know if this is possible and what is required?
Big Concerts: ?@ Debbie. They can provided you give them a letter stating they can and a copy of the ticket reference and your credit card.

Which is a bit very damn different to the info you got from eTix!
I reckon that if anyone is in a similar situation that you best hedge your bets and take both approaches! Email eTix as Mat did above AND get all the info that Big Concerts recommend you have as well!

As soon as anyone manages to get tickets purchased by someone else please let us know what you needed!!

      • Just picked up a similar comment over on BC’s page:

Chris: ?@Big Concerts: From CPT and bought pre-sale tickets for friends in JHB – what proof must my friends take with them in order to collect them from eTix as they are all in my name?
Big Concerts: Hi Chris – we’re advising a copy of your ID, your credit card which was used for the purchase and a signed letter from you advising that you purchased the tickets for them.
Chris: Thanks for the quick response. Just received a reply from eTix as well (on an earlier enquiry). Just made the cut-off time and they could still do a name change. Seems to be sorted now.

Looks like the email to eTix was for formal name changes on the ticket.

Again, as Big Concerts suggests, take everything you can think of with you if you are in this situation!

  20. Hi everyone,

am a non-South African, so apologies for my ignorance. I am assuming that having the following information is enough to get me to the V&A Info centre (would there be any number attached to the address?) I tried googling it but couldn’t find it on googlemaps (but was able to locate Mitchell’s Brewery though!)

    V & A Waterfront
    Dock Road
    Cape Town
    South Africa

    Thank you in advance.

    • Hi Autour

To be perfectly honest, I’m not 100% certain myself. I have a feeling it’s in the building to the left of the Brewery as you are facing it. This Google Street View shows the building I mean: http://bit.ly/gSGLTu

If my memory serves the only thing on the right-hand side is the Ferrymans’ Pub and then an entrance into the V&A Mall. Either way, I think if you go via the Brewery, grab a beer or two, and all will become clear!

      • Thanks very much for your help, Greg!

  21. Did anyone notice the part about Red Zone presale tickets?…… does any one have any details or been contacted yet?….how are they going to contact us, by email, cell, landline, post?

  22. Hi Guys
Who has been super keen and is outside waiting for their tickets in Rosebank?? Sending my girlfriend through at about midday to collect for me, as i am stuck at work. Wondering if the grumpy U2 fans are standing 50 thick trying to get their tickets? Hope the queues and management of the system is top notch to make us all happy campers.

    • I got there at 8.15 am (was 5th in the queue) had a great cup of coffee and made some new queue buddies. They opened collections at 9.45 and I was out of there by 9.50!! The queue was already about 200 people long by the time I left.

      • Girlfriend currently in a long queue. Oh well, sure she will get Mr Delivery to bring her a burger. I paid for the seats in the 6th row right next to the stage so she should be ok standing there for a short while. She can take the aggro out tonight at the Ramstein concert… Wot a weekend.

        Enjoy

        • Rammstein and U2 sounds like a definite sick leave application on Monday for you!
          Enjoy the shows!

  23. What’s happening with Red Zone? Anyone been “contacted by the RED ZONE coordinator” yet?????????

    • Serious, no contact yet?
Suggest an urgent mail through to Etix, and possibly take a stroll to the V&A or the Firs in Rosebank collection points and ask if anyone knows. Good luck mate.

      • Just recieved from BC:

“Hi All. Red Zone tickets must be collected on the day of the concert from stadium box office. This is if you bought from computicket or eTix If you have any problems you can email terri@bigconcerts.co.za who can assist you.”

        • Looks like having the most expensive public tickets means you get less paper to worry about as one of the perks 🙂

Did you ever receive the RedZone related mailer message that was sent out a couple of weeks back? I don’t have RZ tickets but saw a link to it on the BC FB page. It included an image highlighting the location of the REDZone ticket collection point – I don’t think it’s the same as the general stadium ticket office – as well as the two entrance gates that have been reserved for RZ ticket holders?

I’ll dig through my browser history and see if I can find it for you. If so, I’ll post it back here in a wee bit.

        • Here is that RedZone mailer I mentioned: http://bit.ly/fRjGZa

Click the image to see a larger version of the RZ Ticket Office point and the designated gates.

    • Nicky is moving quickly, she has moved 300m ? in about half an hour. Queue seems to be about 40 min wait, she will be at the front in 10 mins. Seems its a wise move to get there soon and hope the queue remains moving. Good job on distribution i must say.

      • Love your approach Derek! Have a beer on us while you blow a kiss to Nicky 🙂 She’s a keeper!

    • Must feel real good to have the tickets in your hands eventually. Sounds like you had the best of the queue – well done Debs! Get on your boots and enjoy the show!

  25. Thanks so much for these queue updates, really helpful for the rest of us who still have to pick up tickets. Good to know that they’ve been relatively efficient.
