Arkadia's view outside FNB stadium during the Vertigo rehearsal

We are busy putting together our report on last nights’ amazing U2 concert in Joburg, and will put it into this post when we’re done with it.

In the meantime though, we’d love to hear the thoughts and comments of anyone who was there last night as well. Please feel free to post your comments below, and send us a photo or two that we’ll add to your comment (use email to

  1. That truely was the greatest show on earth.I am still in a daze at the magnitude of it all.

  2. Well, seems like yesterday that we were queuing for U2 tickets. Now come and gone.
What an experience, great vibe, great organisation, everything running smoothly,(park and ride),great set, great lighting, great music and atmosphere. The calabash was thumping from start to finish.Notices said the concert was to be videoed,so we should be getting our own DVD.Pity about the merchandising tent..surely you know your size T-shirt. No Cds or DVDs .Strange.Pity Bono did not have anything to say about Mugabe,he should be afraid, very, very afraid. His turn to be removed soon.
Otherwise a BIG thank you to Big Concerts and to you Greg for ALL the info.Take a break. Now for Robbie Williams and co………….

  3. Best ever! Not sure any other band can top this.
Their last concert I saw in ’98 had nothing on this one.
PS. Springbok Nude Girls we crap – The Parletones would have been a much better option!

    • I was also very disappointed in the Nuudies…SOUND WAS SHOCKING

    • It’ll certainly take some effort by anyone wanting to top 360 Degrees indeed Leighanne! The PopMart Tour had it’s positives, but I think because they focused on performing a lot of the then new album – which imho is’t one of their better works – it didn’t have the same impact as 360 does. That and the fact that the Claw stage and the lighting and sound of 360 is just so totally overwhelming.

As for Nudies versus Parlotones…. I’d probably disagree with you on that one. I think SNG were a little under-served by the sound during their set, but just watching them and listening to the bits that were clear enough I got the impression that they are still an incredible professional and polished outfit. They pretty much segued their entire set and played for 30 minutes non-stop! Arno’s voice is sounding better than ever and the band really played very tightly together (especially when you consider how little practice they had together beforehand!)

I’ll grant you that the Nude Girls’ songs are probably not as accessible as the P-tones, especially their earlier stuff which may a little heavy on the ear for some. But songs like ‘Genie’ and ‘Blue Eyes’ are standout modern pop-rock songs that stand well above anything Kahn and the Clan have done. Again, maybe just imho…. πŸ™‚ My biggest problem with the Parlotones is that every time I see or hear them I want to go out grocery shopping at the Pick n Pay and stop off for a burger at KFC!!

  4. Hey Greg/Kev & all…

Was awesome yesterday!!! I don’t regret making the trip on my own from Mauritius and for paying a hake a 100 bucks!!! I loved being there…was the greatest show ever…like a good U2 fan…now I can die…I’ve seen what I had to see here on earth!!!!!
Hey Greg, wanted a pic with you too bad!! You all contributed to make me realise my dream…now your part of my life 4eva!!! Thanks guys..!
PS: I was not thinking about being in Port Louis when we were out for lunch yesterday…but my mind often leaves my body when I’m doing things I never thought I would do…I was rather thinking…will I really see bono shake his booty in front of me!

    • Val, you are a true lady!

Thanks for allowing my family to share your life dream!

      • πŸ™‚ I’m happy to have known u & ur family Kev! Ur great people…now when you come to Mauritius again…don’t just go in ‘Le Caudan’!!!!!! Take all the family & pay me a visit in Pointe aux Sables!!!

  5. The show was amazing! Pitty about the sound. Where we were seated, the sound was very poor. It seemed to echo (more like resonate).
