A very belated post
A very belated Merry and Happy to everyone, punctuality is not a very strong suit of mine. I am working on this though.
I am finally back at working after taking off more than a month, it might seem excessive but after working non-stop for 11 months, finishing up a degree, starting up a small scale business and working on a book I thought I deserved it.
2009 was a rocker of a year for me, I must admit. I was kept very busy by friends who sometimes are my clients, by clients who I would rather not see again and important social networking, which was more social than anything else.
Taking that month to drive down to the coast was a fantastic idea, because I took the scenic route. Drove from Pretoria to Bloemfontein, visited some old varsity friends and enjoyed a night out at the Mystic Boer. From there I headed to Ficksburg, stopping at Westminster. A little town with not one but two old churches, which also made up the town.
Taking in some lunch at Ficksburg and enjoying the sight that is the Blikplek, what an odd little place. But it made for some great photos. Drove through Clarens, where I had coffee at my favourite secret little shop. Took in some art at the galleries and ran into old artist friends. We sat for hours debating the context of art in the modern world. Which is pointless I now know, because art “is the end product of an artists energy release”, as a friend of mine later pointed out.
Finally arriving in Durban, where I spent a whole week not doing much. Writing, taking photographs for pleasure, sleeping and eating. Ran into family that I haven’t seen in ages, ate some lovely dinners with them. Visited some friends in the area, went to the Housewives Market and bought some art.
Got back and enjoyed a wonderful Christmas with family and loved ones, geared up for New Years and got carded three times in Hatfield. At 25, it felt like a compliment, even if it shouldn’t.
Will post some photos of this amazing journey very soon.
