Apple iOS6 is not all we were hoping for
After last weeks’ big fanfare heavy, but surprises light, announcement of the launch of Apples’ new iPhone 5, Apple mobile iDevice users get to look forward to the roll-out this week of a new update to the operating system for their toys.
iOS6 will start to filter through to devices from Wednesday (19 September 2012) and as it was announced and has been available in beta form to developers since June, there are no huge surprises on the way. However, some of the major enhancements, changes and inclusions promised and showcased by Apple in June won’t be available to users outside of the major Apple markets (primarily the US and chunks of Europe).
There is a full list of new features expected in iOS6 is available here, but note the small print way down the bottom of the page:
Some features may not be available for all countries or all areas.
Bah humbug, I say. It’s not like we pay any less for our iPads, iPod Touches and iPhones in South Africa, and yet sadly many of the more interesting features of the new operating system are not available to us here.
Here’s a list of three or four key enhancements and what South African iDevice users can look forward to – or not, as the case may be:
|Turn-by-Turn Navigation||(in October)|
|3D Buildings in Navigation|
|Business Reviews & Photos|
iTunes Store (SA Store)
App Store (SA Store)
|Passbook||(maybe in 2013)|
Feeling slightly cheated perhaps…?
