Alexa Thinks Yahoo Is An Indian Removals Company

Anshika Packers & Movers (anshikapackersmovers) has nothing to do with Yahoo. Yet for a good part of today Alexa, the global web site ranking service, seemed to think they were one and the same.

Yahoo.com is anshikapackersmovers in Mumbai, India?

Whether someone managed to access the site editing tools for the listing or whether a disgruntled (former?) employee of Alexa found a way to change the description for Yahoo remains unclear. The links from the listing all point to the correct information for Yahoo specifically, and only the description of the site was changed, so no clear motivation for the action is obvious either.

What is obvious is that the breach has potentially significant embarrassment value to Alexa, which prides itself on ensuring that site information is accurate and verified by the web site owners that list on the service. The fact that Yahoo is described as “providing you the best possible solutions for all kind of relocation such as home relocation, car carrier service, office or corporate relocation mumbai providing you the best possible solutions for all kind of relocation such as home relocation, car carrier service, office or corporate relocation .” doesn’t lend much to that image.

  1. That’s pretty amusing. Wonder who did it. And why. If the links all still point to Yahoo it doesn’t seem to benefit anyone really. Weird one.
