2012 VMAs: All the Winners, All the Videos
Big winners were relative new comers One Direction who took 3 MTV Moonman statuettes back to the UK with them.
The five members of One Direction were contestants on the British version of TV singing contest The X Factor. They beat out both Justin Bieber and Rihanna for Best Pop Video, and fellow all-boy British outfit The Wanted for the Best New Artist award. They also won the Most Share-Worthy Video award — which is voted on by fans — all for their debut hit single What Makes You Beautiful.
The only other multiple Moonman winners were Chris Brown for Turn Up The Music (Best Male Video and Best Choreography) and M.I.A. for Bad Girls (Best Cinematography and Best Direction).
A special mention of the award for Best Rock Video which was won by Coldplay for Paradise. Predominantly filmed in South Africa while the British band were on tour here, the video also features footage filmed at their Johannesburg concert at the FNB Soccer City Stadium. So, those who were there can feel proud that they helped Coldplay win a MTV VMA! (See the story of the video here.)
